I have a problem with this logic. The people posting
messages are not necessarily representative of the
general population. He made a statement about the
general population, and you made a statement about the
people posting messages.
Alton who had a lamminectomy in 1977
Thanks Alton, I am happy too. BTW, what is a lamminectomy?
I agree about general poplulation figures and I also agree about the people
posting messages. But I have been to these boards quite often the last few
months and these people have also been through the conservative treatments
prior to the surgery also. The majority of them, I am guessing here now, I
would say 8/10, found no relief in PT and ended up having the surgery anyhow.
Out of that figure, all of them found substantial relief in their pain after
surgery, but some loss of mobility in their necks. Our good friend Gunny also
once told me when I first joined this list that the only relief I will find
for a herniated disk is to have it removed. That PT will only prolong the
inevitable. PT is not a cure, it only deals with the pain. The only cure is
removal.
Today the GP told me that each individual is different and I totally agree. He
said to give it a good 6 months in all honesty. I asked him what if the pain
is worse in 6 months? He said then call Dr. Bundy and let him take it out. He
also said I will never be totally pain free from this wheter I have have
surgery or not. I need to build up the muscles around the area and have to
continue this for the rest of my life. Again, I already knew this from the
postings at the boards.
Maria who hopes she made some sense..
