<< Phil:
I have a hard time with the 80% figure. As many of you know, I did and
still
sometimes do, make a living evaluating individuals with physical and
mental
disabilities to determine if they can work. I have/do see a lots of
folks
with back problems, probably 80% of those I see, but they are typically
laborers of some sort. Industrial settings and nursing are very
prevalent
places for injuries. Not too many Docs, lawyers, judges, etc with bad
backs unless they got it playing sports or something.
Just my pennies worth.

Doc, Phil & All,
I have a hard time with this figure also. I figure it this way, 8 out of the
10 neighbors I talk to all have herniated disks? I just can't imagine. I am
not a laborer and I know the nerighbors I talk to are not either. Not to say
that they cannot have a herniated disk, but I just find it hard to swallow. We
are simply women that stay home. The only reason I have a herniated disk is
because I took a decent tumble down the basement stairs last year trying to
carry a bike down. I didn't go head to head with Bruce Smith on the Gridiron
and I don't think my neighbors did either.
Personally, I think my neuro told me that all people have herniated disks to
simply poo poo me.
