Hi Robyn and Aunt Gladys, I have a 1997 nursing drug reference book and
looked up plaquenil. It is listed as an anti malarial drug-is used for
that as well as lupus erythematous and rheumatoid arthritis.Nothing said
about using it for nerve problems or as a preventative of any
kind. But,many meds are used for other uses than the drug books say.For
instance tegretol and neurontin are anti convulsants, but are used for
neurogenic pain.I too was afraid to start on anything new,I had a bad
reaction to tegretol. Before I started on baclofen,I was given elavil for
spasms and had severe urinary retention. It's really hit and miss when it
comes to meds-what works for one person won't for another. Good luck
with whatever you decide,Cheryl
