I have joined this group on behalf of my Aunt Gladys who has TM and Lupus.
To cut a long story short, she was diagnosed two years ago first with TM and
then Lupus. She was prescribed Tegretol to control the spasms in her arms
and legs and unfortunately had a near fatal allergic reaction to the drug.
Fortunately she recovered and gradually the TM eased off enough so that she
was even able to drive again. She had been fine for almost a year and then
it about a month ago. After a stay in hospital on pretisone (is that how
it's spelt?) she is back home but still unsteady on her feet and with the
tingling/numbness/pins and needles as before. The steroid treatment wasn't
as effective as it was the first time.
A specialist has recommended a drug called Plaquenil to prevent the TM from
returning. Has anyone heard of it or used it? She is of course worried about
side effects and after almost dying because of Tegretol she is hesitant to
try anymore unfamiliar drugs. I'll try on the net to get more info as well.
Glad to have found this group. Regards to all. Hopefully I will be able to
get Aunty Gladys here to write to you all herself.
