You see he only walks at therapy with the braces and at home for a while
every with his father, Has anyone fully recovered that has the same
conditions as my grandson? >>
Hi Lillian...
I am not sure if my problems were exactly like your grandson's---as I was in
my late twenties when I got TM...But I did not have any feeling in my legs
whatsoever for many months... In fact the first month... I was strapped to one
of those flat boards.... and then the PT therapists flipped the board diagonal
so that I was forced to stand in an upright position... Oh my... I will never
forget that feeling of being soooooo dizzy...and it seemed to last forever...
UGH!
Despite that strange feeling on the board...eventually I got used to being
forced upright... I think this forced my legs muscles into submission...Once I
was able to handle being upright... I worked with my therapists on building
upper body strength...This was difficult with the Lupus... but eventually the
progress was slow and noticable...That is when I began to "WALK on my arms"
balancing on the walker...
It might be that due to your grandson's young age... and growing status...
This might not be possible...His muscles are still developing...and the PT's
may
be trying different things with him....But I do know this...Tell him to work
hard everyday using what the PT's are teaching him...Most importantly-- to
keep his chin up... and don't give up hope....
Hope brings wonderful things...
