hi, i am zicong from singapore. i am 17 yrs old and my mother was
diagnosed with cervical myelitis (with infarction?) in october'98.
initially, she couldn't control her left arm nor close or open her
left palm and with slight weakness in legs and numbness in her trunk.
but she made a very good recovery after treatment with steroids and
with physiotherapy and was discharged a week later. actually, her
recovery was very good and we were very fortunate. she is much better
now, though she still feels numbness in her left hand and there is
sometimes pain especially at night. there is still slight weakness in
her legs (but she can walk well) and she can't really bend/squat down
as it will be very painful for her back. she has a job as child care
centre teacher and that worries our family as there is a lot of
bending down, walking about and other physical exertions for her to
take care of young children. i would greatly appreciate it if anyone
can provide some information on how to recover better from myelitis,
or any suggestions on rehabilitation/physiotherapeutic exercises.
inquries abt my mom's recovery/treatment are also welcome.
thank you.
zicong
