To the Mother of Al and to the man himself.

Welcome to the best place you could be when
you have tm or are the caregiver of one with tm!! We
are sorry that you have to get to know us this way
but, you have come to the right place. We all have
had the same questions that Al has had and not one
of us can give you the answers that you seek. Each
of us has as individual a case as we are different our-
selves, but each of us has had some of the same prob-
lems and can give you some of our answers.

First of all, you have heard correctly, a positive attitude
is of the utmost importance!! Looking forward to what
you can do, not back at what you used to do is essential!!
Can't never did anything! and should not be a part of the
vocabulary of any of us.

None of us know whether we will have a recurrence, this
could be lurking but why think about that? It sounds like
Al has been moving in the right direction, to be improving
to a walker is positive and the next step in my experience
was a quad cane, then cane, then my own two legs!! Keep
up the good work, Al! In my experiencethe spasms etc have
lessened to a great extent--notice them when I am overtired.
The freezing/burning I have in my legs has come on since the
paralysis left so I figure I can handle a little pain in order that I
can walk. Your comment that Al said that he felt that his upper
body was helping him walk is the first time someone has made
that comment (that I'm aware of). I have had that same feeling--
my upper back feels tight and has since I started walking like I
am using my back muscles to hold me up or some such.

Well, I must run. I hope that Al is aware how lucky he is to have
a mom who cares--and how lucky you both are to belong to this
great group as we fight this together. Hope that I have answered
some of your questions, I am certain that you have already received
much encouragement from this group. Let us hear.
