I'll leave it to others on the TMIC list who are more knowledgeable than
me about the effects of TM on pregnancy. In other respects, it sounds
like your case is very similar to mine.
The pins and needles started from the waist down for me -- in less than
10 minutes. Fortunately, I was admitted to the hospital that night,
Saturday. The numbness advanced to my shoulders by Tuesday before it
receded.
After 6 bi-weekly sessions of physical therapy, I now try to exercise 5-7
times a week.
It's been 8 months now. The MRI taken 6 months ago still shows a
"bright spot" at T6, my knees feel a bit wobbly at times, and the TM
waistband comes and goes.
Aside from the emotional aspects (what's that "bright spot" all about?
do I need to worry about the recurrence of this pain or that?), I think
I've been able to essentially resume my pre-TM life. The final exam will
come next month, when I try to go alpine skiing again -- the ultimate
test of coordination and balance for me.
As for the medical mysteries: my Neurologist told me that MS is
diagnosed when they find a second lesion, or "sclerosis" -- hence, the
"multiple" in MS. In my case, TM really means "we didn't find anything
else to explain it." The Neuro said there are other things that it
*might* be, but there wouldn't be a thing anyone could do about it, so
there's not much point in testing for them.
I hope that your apparently excellent recovery continues. Please feel
free to ask if I can answer any questions about what I think I've gone
through -- I'm no expert, but I've been there :-}
Best regards,
/andy
