"Most exciting for me now appears to be the return of bowel and bladder
functions. I am getting "regular" bowel-wise, without "aids"; very big
relief. For the past three days now I have been able to partially empty my
bladder in the normal fashion. I don't know what to expect here but
definately have my fingers crossed. Has anyone else experienced a return of
bladder function? I would sure like to hear about it."
To Mike and All: While my recovery as a child (1963) was good and bowel and
bladder function returned, I still experienced bladder problems (and bowel
problems). I could not go longer than an hour without going to the bathroom.
This made for a difficult time. About 5 years ago, a urologist suggested self
catharization (not sure about the spelling) and it has completely altered my
life for the better. I no longer worry about problems with my bladder. I no
longer worry about going to different locations and worry about where the
bathrooms are. I no longer worry about where I sit at a public affair to get
my escape to a bathroom. Self catharization is the BEST thing that ever
happened to me. It is painless and very easy for a male to do. I only wish
that I had started 34 years ago!
Mike I hope you regain all of your bladder and bowel control. For those who
dont and are thinking of self catharization - ask your urologist and give it
a shot! As I said it dramatically changed my life.
