I have had recovery similar to your experience. It has been 8 years
since my initial onset of tm and recovery has been gradual if not
consistent. I believe there is a lot of tingling and burning in body part
areas before they get better, although my neurologist poo-pooed this. I was
a runner who enjoyed competition before tm so getting back to running and
skiing (x-country) was one of my goals. It took years and although I can
now go for a couple of hours, I don't think I'll ever see anything under 11
minute miles again. Mostly I'm happy to be out and moving, but sometimes
feel frustrated, even bitter. I just don't seem to have the leg strength I
once had no matter how I train.

when I first went back to "running" (it looked like lurching!) my
neurologist was opposed to the plan. I agreed to exercise one day and not
go again until the burning and buzzing subsided. At first, it was three or
four days between exercise, gradually every other day and now I can exercise
every day without bringing on tm symptoms. Sometimes if I'm really pushing
I'll get girdling sensations -- that ring of fire around the middle.

I too had to battle weight gain. Good luck with your goals, exercise helps.
I enjoyed taking up weights because it helped me to feel strong. I was
especially interested in your experience with cranio-sacral therapy. A
friend recommended it to me and when I read about it it just sounded like
something that would help. But I haven't had enough nerve to try it. I
understand it's very non-invasive and in the can't hurt category? Anyway,
keep at your goals. I was told even with tm, that at two years all the
nerve improvement I could hope for would have occurred. It wasn't so. Keep
pushing.
