I am 26 years old and live in Appleton, Wisconsin. My mom is 50 and =
lives in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. My mother had an attack in November, =
1994 and had
paralysis from the waist down. She was hospitalized for approximately =
two weeks. Numerous tests were conducted including MRI's, Spinal taps, =
Cat scans,
monitoring of vitals, etc.. No diagnosis was made at that time =
although doctors were guessing possibilities (Guillan-bare syndrome, =
MS). She was treated with
steroids. She was able to move around with a walker and crutches =
although had many problems for the first few months with loss of urinary =
and bowel control. She was diagnosed with ATM approximately early =
summer, 1995. Since then, she has had bouts of numbness and tingling =
sensations which seem to coincide with high stress times (working long =
hours and stressful situations). She is aware of what ATM is yet would =
like any information about treatment and prognosis. She is especially =
interested in possible-related causes such as diet, hx. of lupus or =
cancer in family, hormone replacement therapy, chronic exposure to =
strong
chemicals (she is a hairdresser). Also, do these factors have any =
bearing or relation to bouts of ATM related symptoms. She has been to =
numerous doctors in
Ft. Lauderdale and they give her minimal information about treatment and =
prognosis. Her mailing address is Sandra Pelletier, 2748 s.w. 45th =
street Ft. Lauderdale, Florida 33312 as she does not have access to a =
computer. I can be e-mailed at bjboothe(AT)vbe.com. =20
