Hi Barbara,
Just thought I'd tell you about my experience with a swollen ankle about 3
years ago.
The ankle on my right foot was swollen and a little painful (between the
ankle bone and heel), not knowing why or what was wrong I wore an ankle
bandage, the stretchy kind. The next day I noticed that the area on top of my
foot from where the bandage ended to my toes was swollen too. (mind you I had
no pain in that area, the pain was at the swelling area in my ankle) I went
to a podiatrist, a specialist in feet. After he examined my foot and before
the x-ray, he told me he "felt" I had broken one of bones that extends up my
foot from my toes. The x-ray proved he was right. I had a stress fracture of
my metatarsal arch bone! Barbara, I'm telling you this because maybe you
should go see a podiatrist. You may have something like I had. My doctor
just wrapped and bandaged my foot in a certain position, I was told to stay
off my feet. (being a single Mom, that was a laugh) I was told it would take
a couple months to heal. In the middle of the second month of healing, that
month being December, I asked if I could at least go shopping. I had a
daughter to buy Christmas presents for and it was 22nd of December. He warned
me, but knowing the power of the maternal instinct......told me to be careful
and not NOT lift anything heavy. The first night out and the first
store........I heard the "snap" and felt the pain. I knew what happened, but
I had to wait ti'll Monday to see the doctor. The stress fracture broke
completely. Damn........... just my luck! I had to spend another 3 months
with a bandaged foot, staying off my feet, trying to bath without getting it
wet and trying to take care of my daughter and housework. I felt like
Frankenstein with the weird shoe I had to wear, with that yucky rubber crepe
sole, I had to be very careful with my walking. Since that crepe sticks and
doesn't slide, I was always afraid I'd "stick, trip and fall".
I hope it is something simple for you, maybe just a sprain. I wouldn't want
you to go thru what I did.
Good Luck,
Kris~
