My husband was original diagnosised with Transverse Myelitis and had all
the usual treatment steriods, MRI, spinal tap, labs, and etc. He seemed
to improve and then had a second attack which he landed back in Oschner
hospital in New Orleans with more IV steriods and rehab. The second
time the steriods were not effective, he had no improvement in his lower
extremeties. Before the second attack he was having some movement.
The neurologists thought that he had MS as the MRI did not show any
improvement so they decided to try a dose of Cytoxan (a cancer type
drug) No improvement so they decided to do a spinal cord biopsy and
September 11 he had this surgury. Well guess what now they are saying
he has TB of the spinal cord. They are treating him with 4 types of TB
medicine for two years. He seems to be doing a little better. His
lesion is from T2 to T11. If this diagnosis is true there are only two
people in the worrld that has this rare disease. The other person who
has this lives aut 10 minutes from us in the same town.. I am
continuing to ask for prayers and hope that he will be able to walk
again no matter how funy it is. He has not walked since May 14th. On e
day he was walking and the next day he could not. He has no control
over his bowels, and caths 4 times a day. Having no bowel control is
the most frustrating for us as I ave to hav someone with him all the
time. He does have upper boy strength. Does anyone have any
suggestions for the bowel training. Sorry this is so long but thought
I would let everyone know what is going on in Mississippi.
