I lost my bladder/bowel function during a Friday night
and on Saturday morning when we decided we needed
to come home to see my own dr we were in the Ozark
hills with tall trees on either side of the highway. I thought
that my eyes were having a hard time adjusting to the rays
of light as we drove down the road, but had same problem
when we were on the open road. I had to keep my eyes
closed because this was giving me a headache. I was not
admitted to the hospital that Sat night but as I lost the use
of my legs on Sunday I was again in the ER on Monday a.m.
and my MRI of the brain did show eye involvement. I suffered
from double vision for about two weeks but it finally cleared
and I haven't had those symptoms since. When I was diag-
nosed with TM that same day they said Steroid was treatment
and I at first refused to agree as I had been on steroids for approx
10 years for a skin problem and I was suffering from the side-effects
and had decided that I would not ever use them again. One of the
side-effects is development of cataracts. My drs brought in my
opthamologist to examine me and he said I must go with the Solu-
medrol IV treatments. He said that when the cataracts got bad
enough he could remove them and that otherwise I was risking
paralysis et al long-term. Needless to say I gave in and have recovered
use of legs, etc. My eye-exams since that time have shown no great
increase in the cataracts.
What I am saying to you is that I would have an opthamologist check
to see if I possibly had this problem. I think your wife is correct in that
your age is when our eyes do make some changes anyway--this may be
all you're experiencing.
Let us hear what you find out. JanH
