Cheryl,

I feel for you and your husband, with this unexpected complication of surgery
and the uncertainty. I just wanted to say there was a lady on the list here
who I believe said she contracted TM after an epidural (Karen Luglio, are you
out there??) I don't know if she is in the list any more -- haven't heard from
her in a long time. It is also my understanding, from a survey that Phil did,
that TM can come after trauma to the spine as well as after exposure to a
virus. Some, during recovery, do feel as though it is a two-steps-forward-one-
back kind of thing, and it is still fairly early in your husband's recovery
(though I know it doesn't feel that way). I hope and pray he does recover to a
greater degree. Do go for the second opinion, and let us know what happens.
There are other things, also, that can cause these symptoms, and they may want
to run other tests to rule out other possibilities. For the record, my spinal
fluid was also clear and I have no lesion on the spine; I don't think they saw
swelling on the spinal cord, but they diagnosed TM based on the symptoms after
ruling out other possible causes.

Don't know if I've been of help -- I'm sure others on the list will respond
and hopefully be able to add more. Let us know how it goes.

Prayerfully,
Barbara H.
