HOUSTON, Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Pathobiotek Diagnostics Inc. (OTC Bulletin
Board: PBTK) announced that the development of a molecular diagnostic kit for
multiple sclerosis (MS) is approximately six months ahead of schedule.
Luther E. Lindner, MD, Ph.D., CSO of PBTK stated, "Pathobiotek is developing a
molecular diagnostic kit to aid in the diagnosis of MS and monitor its
activity. We do not know of any similar product that determines whether a
patient is actively afflicted with multiple sclerosis." Pathobiotek
researchers have isolated a bacterium that appears to be a causal cofactor of
MS. Laboratory tests have shown that this bacterium correlates with symptoms
of the disease.
The diagnostic kit is considered to be a research tool and as such does not
require FDA trials before marketing. The company is presently in negotiations
with a major pharmaceutical company for licensing rights to the kit.
Lindner says, "We are very excited about making the kit available and feel
that it will aid greatly in the diagnosis of this disease worldwide. We feel
that the ability to definitively diagnose MS will help determine the
effectiveness of treatment for the dreaded disease which afflicts 300,000
people in the U.S. alone."
