Hello, My name is Errol White and I am from Brisbane Australia, I
contacted TM first symptoms Tuesday 28 December 1993 and finally had
paralysis set in on Friday 31 December 1993. I spent time in hospital from
31 December 1993 to 27 May 1994 and left with the use of a wheelchair
although I had taken a few steps with the aid of a walking frame. Over the
next seven months I attended a day rehabilitation hospital three days a week
receiving physiotherapy and graduated to walking very short distances with
two Canadian crutches and then with the aid of two walking sticks. Over the
next two years I attended a gymnasium at least three days per week and
worked out until I nearly dropped. But It worked. In June 1996 I was
able to secure an Administration Officers job and have been at full time
work since, but do I ever get very tired by weeks end. I have to drive
about ninty kilometers per day to and from work. I was fifty years six
months old when I went down with TM. One other thing, I am fiercely
independent. Now I can still walk short distances with the aid of the two
walking sticks and use a wheelchair at home and an electric scooter for
longer outside travel, I have had my car, a Ford Falcon Station Wagon
modified with an extra accelerator. (Here we have right hand drive cars and
use the left side of the road) so my accelerator is a left foot mod. I try
to keep very positive and focused in mind and action, but it can be hard
sometimes, but then I think and know there are a lot of folk very much worse
than me, at least I can stand and walk a little. Well I think that is enough
rambling from me for now, I have been reading the list for several months
now, you see I have internet access both at home and work, but have only
just hooked up at home in the last month. Thanks for all the info all of
you provide on the list, I find it very comforting and informative. So for
now Bye from Errol and hope to contact again soon.

Regards, Erro White.
