Hello and welcome,

We are glad you found us and will be glad to help in any way we can. If you
haven't seen it yet, you might check the Transverse Myelitis Association web
page at www.myelitis.org, particularly the link the says something like
"Symptoms and Diagnosis." I'm not trying to be impersonal by just sending you
off to another site rather than explaining what I know of TM here; it is just
that it is so well written and thorough there. When I was first diagnosed, I
was hungry for detailed info. about TM and couldn't find it til I found this
site about 5 months later. You can get into the chat room by going to the TMIC
web page at www.myelitis.org/tmic or clicking on the link to the TMIC page
from the TMA page. I'm guessing you must have been there already to have
subscribed, so please forgive me if I'm giving you info. you already know,
but, anyway, there is a link there to the chat room and also to other TMer's
stories as well as most of the archives of previous notes sent to the list.

You asked about local support groups -- I am unaware of any. I don't know if
there are enough of us in any one area to form a local support group. You
might check with your doctor or neurologist. There may be support groups for
spinal-cord related injuries and illnesses, and there are some things in
common. There is a TM conference being planned in Seattle for Aug. of next
year.

By the way, I don't know if you are on the new AOL 4 or the old Aol set-up,
but when you reply to someone, if you just hit "reply", it just goes to that
person. The old AOL had a "reply to all" place to click, but with the new AOL
it is not highlighted when there is just one name in the "from" line, so if
you want the reply to go to all the list, you have to put the tmic-
list(AT)eskimo.com address in the "Copy to:" box. If you have the old aol, you
can just click "reply to all" and your response will go to the whole list.
Hope I didn't thoroughly confuse you. :)

Please write any time with questions or whatever.

Thinking of you prayerfully,
Barbara H.
