Before I was diagnosed, I had a test called an EMG. They put electrodes on
my
legs (since both are affected) and sent electric shocks to them. They also
stuck tiny pin needles into the muscles there to see how they would respond.
It sounds like something similar to what you are describing. I have heard
that it can be painful :-(, however, since I had lost most of the feeling in
my legs at that time, I did not experience any pain. Hope all goes well for
you.

Hi τΏτ
I've had both electrical tests, with the needles and without... If I'm not
mistaking.... (someone please correct me if I am wrong...), but one is an EMG
and the other I believe is an EEG... It has been at least 5 years since my
last EEG... But, sadly I will NEVER forget the EMG... I had the EMG before my
actual TM diagnosis, 9 months after my 1st paralysis recovery...Many years
ago! Those needles were stuck in places I never knew could hurt... Thumbs,
toes, fingers...muscles, etc. All those long needles were torture, sticking
them into nerves near my bones, and THEN the doc turned on the juice...
Owwweee!!!! Zapped me, then yanked those babies out..moving to a new
area...All the while tears running down my cheeks... I asked the doc, doing
the test, if he had experienced this same test himself... He said, "No, but I
hear it is just a tiny bit uncomfortable." I told him, if he zapped me too
hard again, I was gonna take those needles and zap him one... He said, "Well
that probably wouldn't be so bad, I've had grown men get off this table and
punch me."

Afterwards, I told my docs, NEVER again...I will never... ever... have this
test done again. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. You would have to bribe me,
tie me down... and knock me out before I would do this one again. And then I
won't submit! I've done my duty for the sake of science when it comes to the
EMG!!!!! τΏτ My heart goes out to those with feeling who have experienced
this fun experiment---using your nerves as playthings! UGH...It was a rough
one.

The EEG... Now that is a horse of a different color...From what I remember,
the EEG is a cinch... Ya just lay there with electrodes attached to your
brain, arms and legs, etc. and they zap ya mildly. No pain, no torture. Very
tolerable, very easy...Love the tests that don't cause physical pain... τΏτ
