Ashley,

Please get rid of the idea that tm has stolen your life!!
Shift your thinking to what you can do to help yourself
regain some of the functions that are not working at this
time. A positive attitude goes a long way in helping you
cope with what is happening to you now. I also think that
humor and laughter helps you cope and also aids in your
recovery.

In my case, I counted every little gain! and we laughed at
the things that happened as I tried new steps. I also spent
time doing little things to help around the house the used to
be 'small potatoes' but were now great accomplishments!
I pulled myself up to the sink and sat on a stepstool to peel
veggies, etc, which took a lot of time and yet gave me a feeling
that I was still a contributing member of the family.

I also practiced what the pt had me doing so that when he came
the next time I had mastered that and was ready to do the next
project he had for me. He said he liked to start his day with me
because I had a positive outlook and didn't know the word can't.
This seems to you as something small but every little thing helps
and while you are doing this, you are improving in what seems
like very simple steps. Looking back then shows you how much
you have gained while you weren't even thinking about it.

Good luck. Keep your chin up and go for it!!! JanH
