WEAKNESS

Last Saturday, I had an experience that was a first in 26 years. I woke
about 5:30am and one could say I was really "pissed off." I started having
to urinate about every 15 minutes. I was pretty sure that I had a bladder
infection(I've had many!). About 8:30 things settled down. I even had a cup
of coffee.
I needed to do a couple of errands so about 10:00am I started getting
ready. I did a self cath which I do at least once a day because of the
residual in my bladder.(many infections before self-cath. An infection also
increases spasticity.)
Lo and Behold! I must have really been "pissed off" because there was
nothing there!
The increased spasticity caused the bladder to fully empty.
I went out and did my errands. I use my wheelchair or longer distances, but
not in my apartment. I didn't have any trouble putting the WC in the trunk
of my 1982 Lincoln Towncar. I do once in a while if I am really tired, but
every thing went fine.
After I got home, I started getting a little cold. I thought it was
probably from being out in the heat and humidity(Sometimes AZ has "wet"
heat. Humidity was probably about 50%). I was also getting a little sleepy.
Thought it was because I had been awake since 5:30am.
About 12:00pm I laid down on the couch and had a nap. I used a light
blanket because I felt a little cold and the air blowing from the ceiling
fan causes them to get a little jumpy.
About 1:45 I woke and had to urinate(Finally a medical term!)). I also felt
a little warm, but I attributed that to being under the blanket. I went to
get up from the couch and I couldn't stand up. My WC was nearby. I was able
to grab it and get into it. I was able to go as far as the outhouse(indoor)
door. My apartment is not handicap accessible. I was able to hang onto the
sink and get over and sit on the 'john'.
not much happened, but when I went to get off, I couldn't. I tried to slide
over onto the edge of the tub. I wasn't even able to do that. I finally
leaned forward and rolled off. I wasn't worried because I have some extra
padding.
I was able to drag myself into the bedroom and sit up. I was stunned to say
the least. I had feeling, but was not able to use my muscles. I sat up and
waited for about 15 minutes. I then dragged myself out to the kitchen and
called my sister. I tried to get up again using two kitchen chairs. I was
able to get myself up as my arms would lift me, but I was not able to pull
my legs to get them underneath me
When she got here about 2:30pm, I took my temp and it was 102.2 degrees. I
then took another 2. It had probably been higher because I took 2 aspirin
just before I laid down. I called the Dr. and told him what happened and
that it was a bladder infection. He prescribed Bactrim and before my sister
went to the pharmacy around 3:30pm, I was able to use the kitchen chairs
and get up. The aspirin had done something.
I took the Bactrim at 4:00pm and was able to get up and walk to the
bathroom without any trouble. I'm still on the Bactrim 'til Monday and I've
been fine.

P.S. The moral to the story--"Don't get 'urinated off'!"
