Dear Wim:and Hello everyone
Thank you for the response. Though it is a delicate topic I have
decided to seek help from this group. I am 40 year old male who had TM
at the age of 31. At that time did not have this friendly and
supportive group as Internet was at its infancy. My TM was at the T3 /
T4 level. Onset was within 12 hours. 2 weeks of steroids and intensive
care followed by recuperation at home and PT. Most of my functions are
back except for some tingling sensation, urine residual (150cc,

resulting in UTI) and sexual functional problems. Some intermittent
tiredness. Here is my main problem:

Before TM I had no problem getting an errection and was able to
ejaculate without any difficulty. Since TM getting and maintaining
errection has been a problem. Viagra is helping but not with the
ejaculation. We are trying to have a child. In 20 months through IUI
and one IVF my wife was pregnant twice, but we lost the baby both
times. Time is also running out as she is 37.5 years old. She went
through all tests and does not have any problems. For me they found
that my motility is low 7 to 9% but after preparation goes to 35%. One
big difference I have noticed was my ejaculate used to be more viscous
and white before TM and now it is very fliud. Even the quantity now is
lot less. Timing IUI has been difficult. We are using OVUQUICK
elaborate test kit, basal temperature etc. Even attempted IUI twice in
the last two cycles.
I would appreciate if people could share the problems and
successes in this area. I know it is not unique to me. Please provide
as much details as possible eg. age, motility #'s if known.
For the past two months I have started taking 1 CIPRO (250 mg.)a
day for the UTI, hoping this will help in the sperm motility.
Difficult to get information from the medical community because most
of them seem to be learning along with us. I agree that we need to
seek help for the group from physicians who have dealt with more cases
of TM patients.
Thanks in advance.

Mo

My main question is the sexual function. Since you mentioned it in
your letter I want to know more about it. Thats why I am sending this
mail only to you.
I also lost my sexual functions. Before I was able to ejaculate
without any difficulty. Now when I do it with great difficulty by
masturbation the semen looks different. Retaining erection is a
problem . With Viagra I can get an erection, but ejaculate is not the
same. What are your experiences in this area before and after TM? What
are your doctors views? Please write to me in detail about this

Our cases are different, on this we are the same. To answer your
questions: Before the process started, I had no problems with sex at
all. Because I was sterilized (dont know the word for it) the semen
was already different as it was before. Now I sometimes can
masturbate, and the semen looks like the flue what keeps the semen
together, much different as before. Retaining an erection is for me
also not possible. In the morning when the bladder is full it
sometimes looks like it, but after emptying it , its gone. I dont
have any experience with Viagra, the medicine is just given free in
Holland. We heard a lot about it. I have seen Ophras program about it.
I didnt talk about it with a doctor, my process is still going on. I
understood from your mail, you had a very quick process, virus
perhaps, within two years most of such kind of patients do have a 90%
recovery. To reach the end of my process, it can take a year or maybe
more. My doctor expects after that time , maybe some!
recovery, but nerves are to long shutdown to recover at all.

The sexual problem we have, we are not the only one. What to think
about our wives. Some I read lost there relationship after the TM. No
reason was given, but I have a very good idea about that. Thats why
its good to go on the net with this subject. Maybe wives of TM,s will
react. I cant believe we are the only two with this problem. Jim
Lubin who I wrote about it, does not have any problem to talk about
this subject on the net. I didnt knew how Americans will react, in
Holland we talk about it maybe more freely.

Your English is much better as mine, maybe you are an American
yourself. I think it its the best, you write a piece about sex on the
net. Use my letter ( please without all the language mistakes) and my
first letter, you may use my name, I dont mind. You can also send it
to me personnel, so that I send it to the group, with my name under
it. Maybe it helps other people, that they know, they are not alone.
