I have a Dodge Grand Caravan IMS Conversion which allows me to drive
from my wheelchair. I purchased it from Ilderton Conversion Company in
HIgh Point , NC 1-800-859-6066. In addition to new vehicles they carry
an inventory of used conversion vans. I like driving from my chair
because It saves energy and I don't have to break down andset up the
chair.
As for driving lessons, in NC there are occupational therapists who are
certified by the state to evaluate people who have disabilities and to
give driving lesson. They will come to your home. You might try
calling your state DMV or a large rehab center to get info. Payment is
usually not covered by insurance but may be covered by state vocational
rehabilitation .
As a further resource , I have found PN Paraplegia News, published by
the ParALYSED VETERANS of America 888-888-2101 or pvapub(AT)aol.com to be a
great source of info for me new with paraplegia (TM on 09/11/97, with
t-5 involvement)
Hope this helps to get you on the road, Jake
Pat...who is out and about if not with my former speed but out
nontheless
