Jan ~
I hope everything turns out okay with your foot!!
I learned to wear socks around the house (I hate wearing shoes!!). I
had a two year old here for over a week and everything winds up on the
floor. :)
Another thing I've learned is to be careful when cutting my toenails. I
cut off a piece of skin.....and didn't feel it....noticed it was
bleeding a minute later. That's when I realized I didn't have as much
feeling back as I thought I had!!

Hello all, JanH here. I want to caution those who
have regained their ability to walk but still have little
or no feeling in their feet---Be most careful about
going without shoes when you're outdoors. I have
gone barefoot most of the summer as the gravel/
grass has not irritated because of lack of feeling.
By doing this, I put myself at risk!!! Sometime this
summer I got a splinter in the ball of my left foot.
When I finally realized that my foot hurt, we attempted
to find the splinter. My hubby used his jeweler's eye-
piece/tweezers and could not find. I kept neosporin
and bandage on it for a week as it continually gained
in level of pain!! Friday I went to walk-in clinic at my
drs office and the first doc said "Hospital with antibiotic
IV as this can escalate rapidly". Second doc said "You
know she has little to no feeling so this is bad-I agree
that we need to move rapidly. Let's have the infectious
man look at it." So he was paged and I was sent to the
lab for bloodwork. When I returned to clinic, the infec-
tious man was there (he's my regular doc). He decided
to go a strong antibiotic at home and gave me til Monday
at 1:30 to have improved or we'll start cutting---this little
splinter has caused an abcess in my foot.
Please don't let this happen to any of you. I really am
smarter than this makes me seem--I just didn't think!! It
never hurt when I was barefoot so I thought I was ok>>DUH!
Have a good week-end--and keep your shoes on!! JanH
