Hi Jan,

Nurse practitioners are very capable of handling routine health
management of minor illnesses such as sinusitis, ear and throat
infections, and health maintenance exams. They provide primary care in a
number of situations and do it very well. Most are very capable of
handling things within their scope of practice, and of recognizing
things that are not and consulting or referring. Many patients say they
would rather see the NP, who is apt to take more time, be more
holistic-the nursing point of view. I should know, I was one. Before my
TM, I provided primary care to 105 patients in 10 nursing homes.I worked
in independent collaboration with a physician; but he could not have
managed (and done so very well) the patients he did without us midlevel
practitioners. Have you had a bad experience with an NP?
