And when his nerves finally function, his muscles and
cardiovascular system will have degenerated --- perhaps
beyond recovery. This is from my own experience.
His choice is simple: work as best he can right now or
be a veg in the future. There are no miracles.

I agree. For me, the first few weeks after TM, it was a major effort to even
get dressed. My husband was able to take off work for a while, and then we had
trusted teen-age girl come help for a while, as we had three kids at home. But
then I had to get going and make an effort to do things at home, from caring
for myself to trying to cook again, etc., both to relieve my husband, and
because we had no family around to come in and help. Folks from church helped
a lot, especially with meals, but you hate to impose too much, and they all
had families and responsibilities of their own to take care of. I went back
and forth mentally from wanting to do as much as I could to try to get better
and gain more independence and not need help, to wanting to just stay in bed
with my head under the covers and the door closed. You really do have to make
yourself do what your body needs you to do, whether you feel like it (and you
usually don't) or not.
