Media Invited to Participate in News Conference Announcing World's First
Procedure to Repair Brain Damage from Stroke

WHO: Surgeons and a neurologist from the University of Pittsburgh
Medical Center who are involved in this pioneering research.
WHAT: Details of the first neuron transplant procedure intended to
reverse brain damage created by stroke will be discussed. In
addition, information will be given about the unique engineered
human neurons used in this procedure.
WHEN: 11 a.m. (ET), Wednesday, July 1
WHERE: University of Pittsburgh Medical Center,
Room S-100, 1st floor, Biomedical Science Tower South
(Entrance is off Darragh Street, Oakland section of Pittsburgh)
WHY: This first attempt to reverse brain damage caused by stroke has
tremendous public health implications. Stroke is the third
leading cause of death and the leading cause of adult disability
in the United States. Until now, treatment of stroke has been
limited to preventive measures, acute intervention and
rehabilitation.
