Sharon, JanH here. I can remember that the first
morning that I had a symptom, loss of bladder, we
started our 400 mi trek home to my own dr and I
had the sensation of going from shade trees to sun-
light so quickly that I was slightly dizzy. We were
in Ozarks and the hiway was tree lined so didn't
connect as an eye problem until later. Another
memory about my eyes is on the Friday after my
diagnosis on Monday I was given a 3 hour pass and
my husband brought me home for that time---I had
a terrible time riding in the car, I saw 8 lane highway
instead of 4 and he was driving on the wrong lanes
or in the grass, etc. It was two weeks after onset of
tm before I could watch tv, read, etc.

My diagnosis contained a phrase such as Acute Enceph-
alomyelitis and Acute Transverse Myelitis. (or something
near that--)

Prior to tm by about 2 years, I decided that I would try
contacts. I was fitted with the kind that one is farsighted
and the other nearsight. Soon after I began wearing them
I felt my vision was blurry--upon recheck, the dr cut the far
vision by half and again in few weeks the same occurred.
At that time he took away the far vision contact and I wore
them comfortably until tm. I have not attempted them since.
This is similar to the tales told recently on this list...And this
occurrence was definitely not tm related.

One other thing about my eyes and tm. Due to prior extended
use of prednisone, I had developed the beginning of a steroid-
induced cataract. When the internist-urologist-neurologist team
said I would have to have steroid treatment, I asked for the optha-
mologist to concur with their treatment and to check my eyes
before the treatment--he said we can deal with a cataract when
needed, but for now you have no choice but to get this treatment.
I have had my eyes checked twice since then and my prescription
has not changed.

Didn't mean to talk so long--hope this is what you meant by 'fractured'.
