Hi Jane,

Your four year old sounds like me sometimes. Most days I'm OK going every
hour or maybe a little longer. Occasionally, though, I have to go every
few minutes. The fact that he gained some control after just two months
sounds very positive to me. The "Staying Dry" book (I got it at Borders)
has exercises--I haven't started them yet, but I will eventually. Right
now, most of the time I have an interrupted flow--I need to sit a minute
longer, take a few breaths, and then I go again, and sometimes a third
time. If I feel rushed at all, it doesn't happen. Sometimes, though, no
matter what you do, it seems like the nerve message just isn't reflecting
reality. With so much progress after 10 months, it seems like Daniel can
expect more improvement. You might want to check out the exercises in
"Staying Dry"--I think he should be able to do some or all of them, even at
four.

You might also pay attention to particular beverages that might trigger
urination--any caffeine, of course, and anything with an artificial
sweetener bothers me. Water is always a safe bet. You might want to pay
attention for a couple of weeks just to see if anything else makes it
worse. I think you should let him drink what he desires, unless it seems
inadequate. When I purposely try to limit liquids (I normally drink about
what they recommend or more, particularly in summer), I get a headache.
