HI everyone,
It is only me again..LOL first off I would like to thank everyone who
responded to my e-mail. I just want you all to know, the simple support that
I receive from all of you has helped me to get out of my funk and to see
clearly about what I am going to do. Phil, although I did not burn my bridges
at my old neuros, I have decided to interview others first and to also have a
consult with him, simply out of loyalty. My counselor at the Epilepsy Assoc.
has informed me today that the Assoc. has had over 100 complaints about him
and his wife. Every one of those ex patients has had very similar problems
with him as I have. She says their chief complaints about him are that he is
very distant and short with them now & his wife is also rude. Like I said I
will not burn that bridge. Roger, I have a Q for you. What meds do you take
for your seizure disorder? I am looking at the possibility of the Topomax
causing this, because when I started this potent med, the symptoms started of
TM. It is a fairly new med and they just don't know enough about it. I am
told it will take about 5 years before they know the full affects of a new
med. Just curious. Jane, thanks for the encouragement. I don't remember the
probs you had with your neuro, but I do know the more you have to deal with,
the stronger you become. So yes, we need to keep the spunk! Ann thankyou for
the sound advice about my neuro and the ways they have a tendency to behave.
I am not too interested in bedside manners either, it is a good neuro I am
looking for. Like you said, someone who is willing to learn and listen. He
used to be that way, but for some time now, he has changed. It is a shame,
because I had full trust in this man, and he worked hard for me. But I also
know it is not me. I had told my girlfriend about 6 months ago, that
something is going on in his life, either marital probs or burn out. She is
the one who takes me for my appts. and also sits in on them. She noticed a
change also and would try to put her 2 cents in to get thru to him to no
avail. But again, I will not burn my bridges. To everyone else who
responded, my deepest thanks! You folks are GRRRRREAT! And ladies, don't
wiggle too much! LOL!
Maria

Hi Maria, Roger Pratt here. I had some problems with my neuro initially
not being able to see past my epilepsy to the tm symptoms. My tm episode
started with all night seizures. My neuro would just have me go to the ER
to get the seizures stopped. He about threw my wife out of his office
when we finally got in to him as she bluntly told him he wasn't taking
good care of me. When he finally looked at all my symptoms and had an MRI
he was quite apologetic. I think most doctors have big egos, but mine
came around when he knew the full story. Good luck in finding a neuro who
listens. I have to remind my neuro every once in a while to be humble and
listen to me (he was the one who told me that the patients really know
their bodies the best and that he should listen first and diagnos
second). This list has been great for me, as I'm the only tm'er that my
neuro is treating. Best of luck to you - Roger P :-)
