Gore Introduces Improved Material for Guided Tissue Regeneration

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.--(BW HealthWire)--June 1, 1998--An improved bioabsorbable
membrane to aid in the healing of periodontal defects was released this
quarter.
According to the product's manufacturer, W. L. Gore & Associates Inc., GORE
RESOLUT XT Regenerative Material has extended longevity and improved handling
characteristics. Compared with GORE RESOLUT Regenerative Material, which has
been used clinically since 1993, GORE RESOLUT XT Regenerative Material extends
the spacemaking / cell separation period in guided tissue regeneration by as
much as 100%.
The improved performance is due to the addition of trimethylene carbonate to
the standard GORE RESOLUT Regenerative Material and the patterning of the
membrane itself. Experimental studies demonstrate the functional integrity of
GORE RESOLUT XT Regenerative Material ranges from eight to ten weeks, compared
with four to six weeks for the standard product.
"Our bioabsorbable product line has been improved in two ways," said Thom
O'Hara, business leader of Gore's Regenerative Technologies team. "We have not
only extended the longevity of the material - which broadens its clinical
applications - but we have also improved its handling."
The material's excellent handling results from its unique trademarked
TRIMETRIC pattern. The pattern improves membrane flexibility for ease of
placement as well as enabling precise trimming to customize the product to
adapt to individual defect and patient needs.
Moreover, Gore has increased the number of configurations available to nine,
expanding clinicians' ability to respond to the wide range of defect
morphologies encountered. The new material also serves as a membrane for bone
graft containment.
GORE RESOLUT XT Regenerative Material is sold in the United States through 3i,
Implant Innovations, Inc. to Periodontists, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons,
General Dentists and Endodontists. Common indications for its use include the
regeneration of class II furcation and intrabony defects.
