This malady is very, very real. Albeit, uncommon.

All levels of recovery have significant support in the statistics.
Because you say you are on the verge of crutches only five months after
the incident [I'm at that stage after ten months.], you probably have a
good chance of progressing on to a cane. No bets beyond that. Some
people in this group have gone on to be able to run!
Exercise, exercise, exercise, exercise.
However, sensory malfunctions seem to be common residuals.

Normal symptom. I think, but certainly do not know, that recovery is
likely. However, this comment is unkind to those in the group who have
never recovered control.
