Roger,
I have had TM for 26 years. I can relate to your experience. My ex timed my
"leg jerks" and they were about 18 seconds apart.
I was in a blind study for the Baclofen pump. I would get spasms every 21
seconds. The pump significantly reduced the spasms, but when I would get
real relaxed, they would occur, but not to the intensity that they did
before. I could sit in a chair and my left foot would "jump" 6 inches off
the floor.
in 1995, I was diagnosed as bipolar(manic-depressive). As I looked further
into it, I found out that some depression can be caused by sleep apnea. I
remembered my ex telling me that I would stop breathing while I was
sleeping. Thank God for the Internet, for as I was learning about sleep
apnea, I came across Restless Leg Syndrome.
I went for a sleep study and I was diagnosed with Periodic Limb Movement
Disorder. I take Permax, a drug used for Parkinson's.
I do not have a problem going to sleep because of "jumpy" legs. Once in a
while I have forgotten to take it. When I start to fall asleep the legs act
up and I realize that I hadn't taken the medication.
