Cervical myelopathy

Hello;
My name is Peter and I had spinal cord compression at C5-C6. I
underwent a cervical discectomy and fusion to relieve the compression
but I do have damage to my cord.

I do not know what caused the disc herniation that created the
compression and lesion but I underwent investigation for MS (no real dx
given) and this is when they found my herniation.

My symptoms started with a tingling in my right foot and then, over a
few days progressed to tightness, numbness and sensory loss (mild) in
both legs up to my waist. This all lasted about four weeks and then
subsided. I was left feeling normal except for a L'hermitte's sign that
I didn't have initially. This caused my Dr to send me for an MRI which
showed my herniation and spinal cord damage.
I had the decompression surgery and, until recently have been pretty
much (but not totally) symptom free. I January, I developed numbness in
the tips of my right thumb and adjacent two fingers. These fingers are
supplied by C5 (where my damage is). I then developed my L'hermittes
sign and got concerned.

I have seen my neurosurgeon who feels that I do not have another
herniation but is sending me for another MRI just to be sure. I don't
know if this is just a "flare up" of symptoms from my existing damage or
something else like MS raising its possibility again.

In looking for information on this problem I came across tmic and
thought that we share similar symptoms. So, here I am. If anyone has
had similar problems I'd be happy to hear from you.

Regards:
Peter
