I told my friend who brought this up in the first place about everyone's
suggestions. She had doubts about ATM because "acute" doesn't apply to all
people with TM. It's important that the term be correct for all of us. She
did point out that TMS, with "s" as "syndrome", would help explain why we
don't all start the same, progress the same, and end up the same, even
though we have the same problem. We need to show the complexity of the
problem without confusing people.
