Dave - I think most of the people in my age group and older (mid 40s)
have had or been exposed to chicken pox and measles. Chicken Pox is
another Herpes virus. Once you have it, it stays dormant in a block of
nerve cells. About 15% of those who had chicken pox as kids will get
shingles as adults. Shingles is when the dormant herpes virus decides
to wake up. I have it now - its not at all fun. You get a rash
complete with huge blisters, which scab over and turn black. The
affected nerve endings go beserk, and it is very painful - even after
the rash is clearing up. I got this three years after the myelitis - so
I am not assuming any connection....Ann
