Gerry,
I have the identical problems you have except for the back spasm.
These are suggestions my PT just gave me yesterday to ease the strain on
the lower back and buttocks.

1) Lower back strain/pain - sit forward in
the chair and arch your shoulders back
and hold for a minute or two.

2) Lower back strain/pain - While sitting in the chair place a child's
rubber ball (about 6 inch diameter) in the arch of your back and sit up
straight to ease the strain on the lower back long term.

3) Buttocks and lower back relief -
When you have buttocks pain or #1 & 2 above don't work for the lower
back -
get out of the chair (you probably know the technique) and assume a
crawling position and rock back and forth and wag your tail !! It
feels so good !!

Hope this helps you, it's working for me!
