I am a 58 year old male sufferer of TM my onset took barely 6 hours at T4/T5
complete TM has left me paralyzed from the nipple level down The onset was 4
1/2 years ago
I self catheterize approximately every 4 hours or more often when required
using a Foley catheter and KY or Surgilube as a lubricating agent The urine is
collected in a plastic bag or a jug The advantage of the bag is that the
catheter can easily be retrieved and recycled to keep costs down
Resterilisation is carried out by soaking the cath in a solution of Milton
in a
plastic box for at least 1 hour Caths are removed from the solution and placed
in a sterile plastic bag for future use (so the plastic bag serves two
purposes)
Infections are kept to a minimum by sterile technique and cranberry capsules
(which contain 10000+ units of Vaccinium Oxycoccus and 100mg vitamin c) one
capsule twice a day
I use oxybutnin 5 mg for bladder control 3 times per day it helps but is not
the perfect solution
For bowel “control” coloxyl with senna (ducate sodium 50 mg and sennoside 5
mg)
taken before bed but some times digital removal is needed
I use a leg bag and a nelation cath when I will be away from home in
surroundings that I have no knowledge about but as this is an in situ cath I
seem to pick up bladder infections more rapidly when this
method of cath is used
