Susan, Jan H. here. You and I have almost
the same time with TM as I was struck with
first symptoms April 26, 1996. I went to hos-
pital April 29 and was diagnosed that day and
started a solu-Medrol IV for the next 5 days. I
then was on prednisone by mouth in diminishing
dosage for six weeks. I had been on prednisone
off and on for many years for another health issue
and understand your jittery/manic description but
I had to continue in order to keep up with my job
et al. I at first refused the Medrol route because
of the side effects but was encouraged to take it
to stop the progression of paralysis-numbness. At
the time, I was nearly put on respirator and would
have been had the Medrol not been started when it
was. I can not recommend going against the drs
orders, but do know that there are alternatives that
can be tried.
This past week, I was away from home and spent
more time up and going than I usually do and at one
point after a long walk lost the feeling in my left leg/foot.
It frightened me because I was a long way from my hotel
and home. It was back to walking but not knowing by
pressure where I was putting my left foot unless I looked
down constantly. I was able to sit down for awhile and
the feeling returned (not really feeling, just the pressure
feeling--I assume you relate to that strange explanation!).
I'm sorry that I can't give you more help than to say that I
would weigh heavily my decision if I were you. Hope all
works for you.
