Physical Therapy?

Greetings everyone . Hope to find some answers here. Have been "lurking" and
reading messages at tmic for about 5 weeks now. My mother in law (62) was
diagnosed with TM after a sudden onset of paralysis (chest down) about 60 days
ago. We took her to Mayo and were able to have her accepted into a study,
shortly after her diagnoses. Actually her local (St. Louis) diagnoses was MS,
but Mayo doctors disagree and re-diagnosed as TM. The study involved a therapy
called Plasmapherisis or Plasma Transfer. Every other day for 4 weeks, her
plasma was taken by IV into a machine and replaced with synthetic plasma. She
has had some minor improvements, but not what the Doctors had hoped for.
Sorry, I'm droning on here. My question to you folks is in regards to physical
therapy. The people at Mayo took a cautious, slow approach to this. Her new
local nuerologists want to accelerate her physical therapy and have even
suggested a month or more back in the hospital for intensive PT. I have seen
very little at this website regarding PT...any thoughts or experiences? Thank
you and all the best to each and every one of you.
