Gunny,
I used to get spasms when I was completely relaxed. After I received the
baclofen pump in 1989, they eased up, but did not stop completely. I was in
depression from being bipolar. I found out that sleep apnea(stopping
breathing for a certain amount of time when sleeping) could aid in
depression. I went for a sleep study as my ex told me years ago that I
would sometimes stop breathing when I was sleeping.
The doctor told me that I had Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. The spasms
would
wake me up about every 90 seconds, but I would not remember it happening.
My brain was not going into REM sleep which is when serotonin(for moods) is
made.
I was put on medications for Parkinson's. The first two didn't seem to
work, but the third one, Permax, I have been on for almost a year. The
spasms have not completely stopped, but they are less frequent and less in
intensity.
I now even have dreams which I hadn't had for many years. If you would like
to look further into it, check out http://www.rls.org/
