Hi Sharon,
In response to your question, " Is it too late to take Cytoxan after
2 years with no recovery at all?" I was told by the Neurologist that
Cytoxan is only effective if the T-cells that are causing the
inflammation in your spinal cord are still active in your system. To
determine this, I had a spinal tap and the fluid was checked for
active T-cells counts. The results of my test told them I was a good
candidate for this treatment. The intent of Cytoxan is to suppress
the immune system in the hope that it will stop producing these
killer T-cells. However, the Cytoxan doesn't know the good T-cells
from the bad ones and that is one of the reasons why this treatment
for those with TM is termed be " very aggressive", and not initially
mentioned by doctors until after steroids are proved to be
ineffective.
