Lynn, BOTOX injections are used to treat muscle spasticity. Other
medications such as Baclofen & Zanaflex that also treat spasticity offer many
side effects that I found to be adverse. BOTOX injections are local; In
that, they are injected into the ares of spasticity. BOTOX is actually the
toxin found in botulism. BOTOX serves to "paralyze" the muscles experiencing
spasticity to relieve some of the pain and contribute to the range of full
motion. The procedure is slightly painful, depending on where the injections
are given. In fact, I am currently on my way to recieve my second round of
BOTOX injections. They really helped the first time, allowing me to return
to a more aggressive workout routine - its been approx three months and I
have been feeling the pain and loss of motion resulting from spasticity for a
couple of weeks - I am looking forward to the injections. Kinda!
