Daniele,
How long was your brother-in-law on steroids? Did the doctor prescribe
Zantac or anything similar to take along with the steroids? Also, is he
taking any antidepressants?

I remember while being in the hospital on the steroids, I was given Zantac
along with it, and told to take it for at least three weeks after steroid
treatment, because one of the side effects of the treatment was ulcers, and
prescribing Zantac along with it prevented the ulcers.

Also, unrelated to the steroid, I am taking Nortriptyline, and my doctor told
me that one of the side effects of that is bizarre dreams, and he was sure
right about that!

Another possibility of the pain was what Bob from Houston mentioned, that the
pain could be caused by muscle spasms. When I had the spasms, I could not
even take a breath without the "knife" stabbing sensation. I was given a
valium injection to stop it. Now I take Baclofen to prevent the spasms, and
no longer have that problem.

Either way, these symptoms should be brought to the attention of your
brother-in-law's doctor, so that they can be resolved. He doesn't need to be
having that pain.
