Your niece is lucky to be in Children's in Pittsburgh, I hear it is
excellent. As far as I understand steroids are a very very appropriate
treatment, perhaps the only thing they can do. My little boy was paralyzed
shoulders down with TM at 13 months and was walking again at 17 months. He
is doing pretty good now except for some bladder control trouble and he runs
oddly. If you need the name of a good pediatric urologist for future
troubles (at Children's in Pittsburgh), e-mail me personally, our guy is
really good - nice with the kids and thorough medical advice too.
