Tm and ms

Hi,
I've been reading your notes since the first of Sept. and have not
introduced myself. I'm going to wait for when I have more time to
tell you more about my case and my recovery these past 8 years since I
first contracted tm. Mine was a classic neuro textbook case, I have
been very lucky in my recovery, but I have had two reoccuring episodes
which caused me to do a lot of literature searches. Initially doctors
told me the good news was tm does not strike again. Literature since
1988 says otherwise and that's why I question the report from the
doctor who said the difference between tm and ms was ms was reoccuring
and tm only one episode.
If you have access to a medical library I suggest you look up the
following articles and you may want to pass on the references to your
doctor. I gave the articles to my neurologist and he hadn't seen
them.
Transverse myelitis. Retrospective analysis of 33 cases, with
differentiation of cases associated with multiple sclerosis and
parainfectious events. in Arch. Neurology 1993 May;50(5):532-5.
Relapsing transverse myelitis. in Neurology 1991. May:41(5):703-6
A question to ask your doctors: How many cases of transverse myelitis
have you seen and what is your knowledge of recovery.
I think this forum is the best place to answer our questions. I've
been pretty disappointed in the medical community. I haven't done a
literature search for over two years and I will try to do one again
soon. I have a couple of pages of titles and abstracts and some
copies of the articles. If anyone has suggestions on how to pass this
info around let me know.
I will be out of town for the rest of the week but plan to get online
this week-end and share my history with you. This forum has been very
powerful for me. Thank you all for sharing. Mimi
