Hi,
My name is Carolyn. I am a fifth grade teacher in Massachusetts. Last winter
I had a respiratory infection, and a few weeks later I also fell on the ice.
Shortly after this I experienced numbness in my fingers that was extremely
uncomfortable and would not go away. I went to my orthopedic Dr. because I
had had disk surgery in the past and thought that when I fell I had injured
another disk. He did an MRI which revealed a leision at C2-3 and two
herniated cervical disks. Next they did a brain MRI. It revealed three small
insigificant leisions. It began to get worse. My feet went numb, and I
developed Lhermett's sign (a tingling, electric sensation traveling down the
spine into the extremities and trunk)and I had a few episodes of vertigo.
Then began the rounds to neurologists who were looking for MS. After they
told me they were 99% sure of MS,I went into the hospital for 7 days of IV
methyl prednilsone, spinal fluid tap, and EMG studies. Three weeks later
when I went for my follow-up visit they told me they changed their minds,
that they think I have Transverse Myelitis, but failed to clearly explain
what it is. The methyl prednilsone made me feel dead, and since having it I
have had one respiratory infection after another.I'd really like to hear from
others with these symptoms.
My best to all, Carolyn
