Listing and Participation in Support Groups
If you signed up for membership to The Transverse Myelitis Association
using the form on our web site, you were given the option as to whether
you wanted to be listed in the membership directory. If you
checked the box that you did not want to be listed, the TMA will not
divulge your name or information to any other TMA member.
There are TM support groups operating all over the country and all over
the world. New support groups continue to be initiated and
existing support groups are growing. If you have indicated that
you do not want to be listed in the membership directory, the TMA will
not share your name and information with the support group
leaders. The lists I send to the support group leaders are used
primarily for invitations to support group meetings.
If you are currently not listed in the directory, and would like to
become involved in a support group if one exists in your area or be
notified of a new support group, should one be initiated in your area,
please call, send me an email or a letter and let me know that you
would like to change your listing status. Jim has established a
support group page on our web site:
http://www.myelitis.org/support.htm. You can learn of new support
groups and keep track of upcoming events of existing support groups by
regularly checking back on this site.
The listing will make it possible for you to participate in a TM
support group when one is initiated in your area. Your listing
will also make you available as a resource to someone in your area who
may need your help. As TM is a rare condition, we need to be
there for each other to share information and support. Please
consider being listed in the TMA membership directory.
