Help for Children in the United States and Around the
World: www.usvariety.org
Morgan and Pam Hoge
We were in need of purchasing a van lift and we needed help. We were
referred to Variety – The Children’s Charity, by one of Maria’s therapists.
We received great help from this organization. The people were very
friendly. Before being referred to Variety, we had never heard of this
organization. We believe that other families with children with TM
might be helped by Variety. They are located across the United States
and in countries around the world.
Variety — The Children's Charity is an international organization that has
been helping children since the 1920s. Variety's mission is to provide
life-saving and life-enriching assistance to children challenged by physical
and mental disabilities, poverty, abuse, and neglect.
Variety — The Children's Charity assists at-risk children by providing medical
treatment, artificial limbs and special equipment for afflicted children
to help them become more mobile. They support local hospital and major
university research and they fund crisis centers, hotlines, and therapy.
Funds are allocated to various children's agencies and camps to aid disabled,
disadvantaged, abused and/or neglected kids, as well as to children who need
medical services or equipment such as wheelchairs, leg braces, augmentative
speech equipment, hearing aids and all types of prostheses. Working
with the Ford Motor Company, Variety provides passenger vans, known as Sunshine
Coaches, to agencies and individuals to transport children throughout their
communities.
Variety has an international program called Variety Children's Lifeline that
is designed to assist children with medical problems in developing areas
where resources might not be available. Variety Children's Lifeline
has been working since 1982 to provide medical assistance to children throughout
the world. The primary focus is open-heart surgery; however, no diagnosis
is ignored if the need is great and the resources to help are available.
Variety Children's Lifeline has two methods for serving children who need
help. The Lifeline program sponsors teams of medical personnel throughout
each year to go to developing countries where the medical community is ill
equipped to handle very sick children. The program also sponsors children
from developing countries to come to the United States for more extensive,
complex surgical procedures. Each year, over 550 children undergo
life-saving operations sponsored by Variety Children's Lifeline.
Variety has 51 chapters in 13 countries focusing on providing assistance
for the treatment and care of disabled and disadvantaged children.
All of the Variety chapters can be found on their web site. If you
are in need of assistance, please contact the chapter that is located closest
to your community. We hope that you find this information helpful.
