Young Adult’s Autumn Retreat November 17-19, 2006

The Transverse Myelitis Association is partnering with Victory Junction Gang Camp (VJGC) to hold a bi-annual autumn retreat weekend for young adults with TM, ADEM, NMO, and ON.  The camp is located near Greensboro, North Carolina.  The Victory Junction Gang Camp Board has generously offered the TMA an opportunity to bring together our young adult community for a weekend retreat.  The weekend will provide a chance for you to meet with others who understand your experiences better than anyone.

Dr. Douglas Kerr, Dr. Adam Kaplin, and Chitra Krishnan from The Johns Hopkins Transverse Myelitis Center will be attending the Retreat Weekend.  Cody Unser from the Cody Unser First Step Foundation will also be coming to participate as a camper.  In addition to participating in all of the activities, Doug, Adam and Chitra will be available the entire weekend to answer your questions.  It will be a great opportunity to get to know these wonderful TM specialists and to learn more about TM.  The focus of this camp experience is going to be on a weekend of fun and relaxation and an incredible opportunity for you to meet others your age with TM, NMO and ADEM.

There will be no charge for the young adult retreat weekend; the meals, lodging and activities are free!  Your only cost will be transportation to the camp.  The Piedmont Triad Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina is approximately 20 miles away and airport pick-ups can be arranged.

We are inviting our members who are between the ages of sixteen and twenty-five to the young adult retreat weekend.  If you are planning to attend, please call Stephen Miller at (937)453-9832.  You should also begin the application process with Victory Junction Gang Camp.  There are two applications that need to be filled out and sent to VJGC; both are found on their web site www.victoryjunction.org under the link ‘How to Apply.’  Please download and complete both the Family Camp application and Camper application.  You should mail or fax in your part of the application to VJGC while your physician is filling out the medical portion of the application.  If you have any questions or would like any additional information, please get in touch with Stephen or any of the TMA officers.

We know that young adults face special challenges in their lives; going to high school and college, dating, getting married and starting families, seeking employment and initiating careers.  We know that having the opportunity to share your experiences with your peers will be enriching and empowering.  We know that you will come away from this retreat with lifelong friendships.
